Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) is a method and language for describing, visualizing, interpreting and documenting all varieties of human movement. It describes how human beings express themselves through movement based on the life, teachings and writings of early 20th century movement pioneer Rudolf Laban. The more expansive Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis (LMBA) is a multidisciplinary approach based on the foundational groundwork of Laban, enhanced by the work of Irmgard Bartenieff known as the Bartenieff Fundamentals and incorporating contributions from diverse fields including anatomy, kinesiology, psychology, neuroscience, neuro-psychology, and spirituality.

In this workshop participants will be offered an introduction to the LMA framework through a combination of lecture, movement exploration and discussion. The categories within LMA known as Body, Effort, Space and Shape and the various related concepts will be introduced by lecture and then explored from an LBMA perspective, using guided movement, locomotion, somatic groundwork, and play.
